I would never condemn those who are happy and happy with his portrait edited at ChatGPT - because I would be insincere. AI is an interesting tool that helps me when I have no idea for a post, correct a text, and ask for business advice.
(Wow, I just realized that AI plays a similar role to self-help books in my life).
Nevertheless, knowing how to use AI, I do not even have a line in my book that I have not written. Want to know why? It's all about Miyazaki. To tell a good story, you need to have a soul.
"But it's all recipe," yes, create a work that is just a recipe for writing a manual, and you have most of Disney and DreamWorks movies for the past 10 years. They are all the same. The film starts, and you already know how it will end. It has no mystery, no character construction, and barely ends, and you have forgotten. Creating something requires sensitivity and the ability to do so.
And AI has none of that.
The so-called "intelligence" is technical and created to help scientists process and analyze data. She is the employee who never complains, does not sleep, or gossips in service—boring! She doesn't have the gift of imagination, so she creates nothing; she will just answer what you ask her.
Creating is something from those who are alive. But it can even fool you! Just know that behind every great one are... people.
This ranges from the knowledge that the whole world has put on the internet and was illegally used to produce these programs (have you realized that no government is moving a straw in this discussion? Did authorship no longer exist?) to the workforce used to train it today.
And yet, it has no materiality! If your phone or computer is off, what work did AI do? None. The great truth that no one will ever talk about is that a well-programmed AI is still not superior to a group of people who study, have and dominate the right equipment, and work together for a common goal. Your results can make a difference in reality, but for that, they need human hands.
When we look at the overwhelming majority of AI users, we understand that the success of the programs depends on how much people live in the virtual world and the insufficiency of financial resources to hire someone. Creating something good involves years of training, study, and work on the part of the artists - and that is what is behind Studio Ghibli's works.
It is no exaggeration to define Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli as an inspiration to any artist. He is a storyteller, a dedicated designer, and animator with a visceral relationship with his works, a thinker, and (why not?) a philosopher.
Miyazaki is a wizard who has made a whole generation of young people used to monotonous music, which teaches men how to treat women as objects and women to submit to such, to listening to violins infinitely, plunging it into a flowery universe, full of appetizing foods and magic.
All of this with hand-made drawings, a precious and organic rarity, full of faith in human beings' ability to act in the world despite the curses and darkness that permeate their dreams and hearts.
Therefore, when faced with AI, he says, "This is an insult to life itself."
Not using a filter demonstrates respect for the artist, his team, and everything that composes them. I respect and love them for all the beautiful moments that their work provided me.
But I must admit that when I see so many people happy with their photos in this style, I still wonder if, deep down, he is not delighted to see that he has reached so many people.
(Of course, while getting mad at the ChatGPT)
